063. Stacking

In the drive for density, not only houses of offices should be stacked. Factories, agriculture, parks and retail would accelerate this imagined 3d life. How can one in this respect generate on a modets lot, a vertical city centre in which complete automobile accessibility can coexist with a promenade where cars are prohibited?

The Inntel Hotel in Zaandam an imaginary stack of the Zaanse Houses, a type of vernacular buildings of which the Amsterdam Noord and the Zaandam area are famous for. The programme inside is all 160 hotel rooms. Part of the hotel lies on a motorway tunnel. The whole building is meant to be a landmark for the transit area of the main Zaandam station.

The project was conceived at the studio WAM Architecten. Their fate seems to bring them more and more into public attention also after another one - the biggest mosque in the Netherlands which recently has been opened in Rotterdam.
