Notes for the Bunker Project:
"Within the densifying conditions of society, vast amounts of programme are more and more being pushed underground. Water reservoirs, electricity plants, parkings, storage rooms, archives, leisure spaces, factories, offices and even houses. Quite disparate lines of reasoning such as monument regulations and historical sentiments, ecological notions and security objectives seem to be behind this process. It is almost as though the ideological notion of the "deck", the modernist level in the air, has gradually found its position and is going to be realized at zero level. In doing so, the existing earth is going to be loaded with underground programmes, with the more acceptable parts of modern society oin top, like the peaks of icebergs.
Can we accept this phenomenon and explore it as an enormous potential reservoir? Can we adjust lifr to ots logic which is mainly defined by technical and logistics parameters? How can one live within this calustrophobia, the lack of light, the difficulties of escape? What type of behaviour or orientation can be imagined in these places without context, without reference? How would we imagine an underground termite life to be?"
